Engineering Research Center for Structured Organic Particulate Systems
Graduate & Post Doc Program

New MS Degree program:  In December 2008, NJPC Executive Board approved the submitted Masters of Engineering with a focus on Pharmaceutical Engineering. This newly approved M.Eng. Is a self-contained, professional degree and is the first new degree to be approved at Rutgers for over a decade. With state approval in place, a strong effort is now under way to advertise this degree and make ERC industrial members, mentors and sponsors aware of its existence. Currently, we are targeting the full-time industrial employee who would earn this M.Eng degree on a part-time basis. For this reason, the 3 credit hour Pharmaceutical Engineering Courses are offered in the evenings. Each course meets from 5-8:00 pm one day a week.

The curriculum is designed to:

1.         provide graduates with skills and tools to be innovative, competent, contributing engineers in the pharmaceutical industry;

2.         train graduate students to meet the constantly changing needs of industry for state-of-the art research/manufacturing practices and protocols

3.         give graduates the training and experience to further their career in industry.

There are 5 Pharmaceutical Engineering Core courses and a list of electives, several of which were new courses developed, approved and taught during the 2008/09 Academic year.

Core courses:

  • 155:545 Pharmaceutical Process Design I (Synthesis, Separation and Sterile Processing in the Pharmaceutical Industry)
  • 155:546 Pharmaceutical Process Design II (Pharmaceutical Unit Operations)
  • 155:547 Statistical Analysis and Design of Pharmaceutical Operations
  • 155:549 Advanced Engineering, Pharmaceutical Kinetics, Thermodynamics and Transport Processes
  • 155:541 Design of Pharmaceuticals
